My word! I have waited too long to review this. Well, this chapter is marvellous as always. I love your description of the opium induced phantasmagoria, the sumptuousness of it all. And then that lovely bit of Florence and Hunter-Fox at the end there. As much as I love their dynamic, I do hope she convinces Robert of her own parity soon enough. The Margaret Atwood within me is rebelling against his tyranny... which is never good. Lovely chapter... Bea

Spectacular first chapter. You know just how to write to get someone into a story from chapter one. I really think this should be a novel published in print. Florence is an interesting cut of a personality, totally from her time, but also easy to understand today. She seems like a rebellious teenager, in a sense. Jessie is also a nicely fresh face to add to the story. Kind of like  Bohemian artist right? I really like this, it’s written perfectly.

Gosh, you always bring this time period so vividly to life. I’m right there, with poor Molly, experiencing the squalor and the stench. I felt so sorry for her and I feel sorry for the young lad too, only 14, getting his ass beat. And that was a relief Molly got away. They certainly had bad intentions for her. I dread seeing her with Mary again though. Mary is most definitely not a friend. You have me worried again.

And now we can drug addiction to Alex’s faults. I hope Jessie and Vyvyan just turn around and leave. I don’t know, for some reason, I see Vyvyan being real susceptible to opium. Maybe I’m wrong, but he just seems like that kind of character. He almost needs Jessie to look after him.

Alex is just bad news all together. Him and Mary should get together, they’d make a perfect couple, except Alex would think he was too good for her. He isn’t.

Anyway, another excellent chapter! I think I’ve already said it, but writing historic Victorian fiction is really your forte. I know you are passionately interested about the time period and it shows. Bravo!

Oh! Does Agnes the maid in Chapter 18 have anything to do with Agnes the wife? Or is it just a coincidence?

Author's Response: Ah, no, I'm afraid that's just me being inattentive. Though that would be an interesting extra twist to work into the tale somewhere... Thanks for reading and reviewing; it's great to hear from you.

Bah, I really think Lord Hunter-Fox is being inflexible. And Florence flightly. But they are so delightful! Can Flo not unbend him a little? Thanks for the chapter and can't wait for the next!

Am I evil for being glad that Tilly is getting this sort of revenge for Molly ?
That she's enjoying herself and that Florence is beingforced to be polite to her ?

Author's Response: If you're evil, so am I! Poor Molly.

Ouch. That was a wonderfully written chapter. You always manage to blend everything together perfectly (what I mean is there is never too much dialogue or too much description). I like how you have developed Florence's character throughout all of this. She is now beginning to sympathize with how other people feel...she realizes that her husband was actually worried for her and is sorry that she caused him to feel pain. Anyway, I can't help but wonder how much longer until Tilly is exposed. I have expect her to have been watching this particular scene between Florence and Lord Hunter Fox.

I had to laugh when Tilly came in limping. I think Florence found it rather amusing as well. I’m sure Tilly felt vindicated though, once she hid out and watched Florence’s proper thrashing. Eeek! LOL

So her breakfast is a boiled egg, bread and butter and tea. Is that a typical Victorian English breakfast? It sounds spot on. :D

You really do describe excruciating canings. I can almost feel every painful whack. Lord Hunter-Fox is so strict too. It just gives me goosebumps. (In a good way though) LOL
I find this believable too, considering how strict the Victorian period was. She was certainly well whipped!

Florence has her work cut out for her if she is going to be looked at as an equal by LHF. LOL

Wonderful chapter Shez! Thank you!

Florence has a monumental task at hand becoming an equal to her husband. Her bottom is going to be one big callous at the rate she is going.

Yay! See my happy dance! I have been dying to see what Lord Hunter-Fox would do. In fact I read this right away, but I didn’t get a chance to review until tonight. Sorry about that. :(

Anyway, poor Molly is out on the street again. I am relieved to see her getting away from Mary though. I was so worried about her.

And as for Alex, he is such a dud. It makes me laugh. LOL
Here, he was pretty much bested by Florence, (You go Flo!) biting him at the perfect time. Of course he was drunk, but it serves him right.

I was touched by Lord Hunter-Fox’s gentleness. In fact, I was all swoony reading how he took her home and gave her a bath, putting her to bed. Yes I have a feeling Florence is about to get the whipping of her life tomorrow, but tonight Lord Hunter-Fox showed what he truly felt for her. He’s also seeing the error of his ways and may lighten up a little bit. That’s a nice step in the right direction. *sigh*

Anyhoo, lovely chapter Shez!

I assume this is the re-marking of territory and punishment will come on the morrow. Did the Lord not take Florence's drawers off while he bathed her? If not, then he would not have seen just how bruised she already is from his last reprimand.

Author's Response: Nah, this is five days later - the bruises are gone now.

well, I'm sure he'll remain master in the bedroom but I hope he might at least come round to some slightly more feminist principles out side it!

Author's Response: Florence is going to work on him, believe me!
