It is rather baffling to see someone who has never used the internet as a way of communicating with others about BDSM get upset and decry it as a "illegitimate" form of BDSM. More typical of a close minded person I think then someone who should be open minded. What is wrong with people using new methods of communication to explore?
As you pointed out there are trolls and posers everywhere. In the real world we deal with physically and the cyber world. A person needs to be on guard in both places to sort out the people they deal with in either location.
Any way that people can come together to discuss common things is a good thing in my opinion. And sorting out who you want to communicate with is just part of that process. Whether online or not.
